Frequently asked questions
Scranton Pilates Academy offers certifications in Mat Pilates and Reformer Pilates.
The Mat Pilates Certification program requires 100 hours of training, covering lesson learning, self-practice, observation, and student teaching. It includes class programming techniques, anatomy, and technical education.
The Reformer Pilates Certification program consists of 200 hours of training, focusing on similar aspects as the Mat Pilates Certification. However, participants must be fully certified in Mat Pilates before applying for the Reformer Certification. Access to a Reformer is needed for this certification to practice, learn and apply their studies. An option to schedule access to the studio with the reformer will be offered at that time at an additional cost to complete their hours.

No, there are no prerequisites for the Mat Pilates Certification program. All you need is a passion for Pilates!
Yes, to earn your Mat Pilates Instructor Certification, you must:
Attend All In-Person Trainings on the scheduled weekends.
Complete:
Self-Practice: 20 hours
Observation: 20 hours
Student Teaching: 20 hours
Pass Final Exams (written, practical, and a 15-minute recorded session).
To qualify for the Reformer Certification launching in March 2025, you need to complete the Mat Pilates certification. You can also wait for future Reformer cycles, which we’ll announce later.
Access to course materials expires one year from your sign-up date. If additional time is needed, exceptions may be made, but both certifications must be completed to receive full accreditation.

How are the hours broken up in the Mat Certification program?

Observation: You’ll receive a list of approved classes and instructors where you can observe Mat Pilates sessions. These are selected to ensure you gain diverse insights into different teaching styles and class structures.
Student Teaching: Once you’ve completed the required training hours, you'll have opportunities to teach practice sessions. These sessions will be scheduled and supervised to provide constructive feedback and ensure you meet certification standards.
Access details and scheduling information will be provided during the course to help you complete these components effectively.
Reformer Certification Program (200 Hours)
Prerequisite: Completion of Mat Pilates Certification

In-Class Hours: 80 hours over 4 weekends
